Members of Chambers.

We currently have 10 practising members of chambers with a wide range of experience in many distinct areas of law.

Mr Geoff Knowles - Year of Call 1998 - Middle Temple

Practises in Criminal Law, with particular interest in Courts Martial, complex fraud cases and matters with a Human Rights focus, appearing recently in the case of R v Durham Constabulary and Secretary of State for the Home Office, a case concerning the Final Warning system heard in the House of Lords.

Other areas of practice include Family Law, with particular focus on Divorce cases. Also practises in General Civil and Common Law.

Mr Stephen Rich - Year of call 1972 - Gray's Inn

All aspects of criminal defence work as well as family law.

Mr Ian Dixon - Year of call 1982 - Gray's Inn

I have been instructed for both Prosecution and Defence in a wide range of matters. Cases include rape and other sexual offences, attempted murder, major CEMA 1979 evasion of duty (on involving the importation of Class A Drugs to the value of around £12m (Defence) and another involving the importation of 8.5 million cigarettes (Revenue and Customs Prosecution) ). Other cases in which I have been instructed include serious public order offences, fraud (including a case in which about £2.5m was alleged to have been involved) and the whole range of offences against the person and offences of dishonesty.

Miss Julia Weatherall - Year of Call 1985 - Inner Temple

Practises in Criminal, Civil and Public Law including Immigration, Asylum and Inquests.

Member of the Criminal Bar Association and Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association.

Mr Paul Gibson - Year of Call 1998 - Lincoln’s Inn

Practises predominantly in Criminal Law but also general Civil and Common Law.

Mr Joseph Piers Hedworth - Year of Call 2002 - Inner Temple

Grade 2 prosecutor. Instructed to prosecute and defend in a full range of criminal work including sex, violence, drugs, fraud, and road traffic cases.

All aspects of prison law.

All aspects of private family law.

Mr Tony Cornberg - Year of Call 2003 - Lincoln’s Inn

Practises predominantly in Criminal Law, with a particular interest in surveillance cases and large-scale covert operations.

Also practises in Asylum Law, having previously worked as an Interpreter, and speaks French to Court standard.

Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists.

Ms Gemma Davies - Year of Call 2004 - Middle Temple

Practices in all areas of criminal and general common law but with an interest in family and employment law matters. Also works as a Lecturer in Law on the Bar Vocational Course at Northumbria University.

Mrs Amanda de Winter - Year of Call 1998 - Lincoln's Inn - Worked as a Corporate Commercial Solicitor acting for Blue Chip and SMEs for 7 years

Areas of specialism include Corporate Governance, Insolvency – both Corporate and Personal, Employment Law - encompassing Employer’s Liability, Health and Safety Enforcement Actions and Personal Injury at work and general Contractual disputes including Landlord and Tenant law and Consumer Credit matters.

Alongside the Commercial practice runs a Criminal practice including Corporate Crime.

Ms Emma Louise Bennett - Year of Call 2004 - Lincoln's Inn

Emma’s practice encompasses all aspects of civil and criminal law with a particular interest in personal injury litigation. Emma appears for both Claimant and Defendant in personal injury, contract and trusts of land disputes. Her paperwork practice consists of drafting pleadings and advices on liability and quantum. She is happy to accept instructions on a CFA basis.

Emma is regularly instructed to Prosecute and Defend trials in the Magistrates’ Court and has a growing Crown Court practice. She also represents patients at Mental Health Tribunals.

Before completing pupillage at Cathedral Chambers, Emma spent time working in London as a breach trial prosecutor in the Criminal Courts, a Solicitors’ Agent in the County Courts and as a lecturer in the areas of Contract, Torts, Trusts and Medical Negligence at both London South Bank and Middlesex Universities.
